LIBERATOR EXPRESS (ATC “HUMP” AIRLIFT)
The crew of a Air Transport Command, Consolidated C-87 Liberator Express transport is seen on an eastern Indian airfield. The C-87 was one of two transport aircraft developed from Consolidated’s better known B-24 Liberator heavy four engined bomber. The C-87’s four turbo powered engine performance gave its crews the ability to safely operate at altitudes beyond the tallest mountains along the “Hump” Airlift route.
