“SCOTTY”: (CATF)

In one of the more widely recognized photographs of the Second World War, then Colonel Robert L. Scott, the legendary first commander of the 23rd Fighter Group is seen in the cockpit of his Curtiss P-40E “Kittyhawk” fighter on a Western Yunnan airfield in late 1942. The ten Japanese flags that Colonel Scott is pointing towards proclaim that Scott has been officially credited with ten aerial victories. Scott’s wartime book, “God Is My Co-pilot” has been an inspiration to several generations of young Americans, and was made into a major wartime motion picture of the same name.

Brigadier General Robert L. Scott, USAC, USAAF & USAF (ret) was a Founding Board Member of the SAAHF.
